Big Changes

Last time we talked I mentioned that I was still pregnant… Well, things change, and I am no longer pregnant!  Hubs and I officially became a mommy and daddy on October 23rd at 11:51 PM.  We welcomed our little Miss C into our family and our hearts and couldn’t be more smitten.

I will write about her birth story a little bit later this week, but thought I would make a formal introduction…

Blog world, this is Miss C… the newest love of my life.

We tried a photo shoot today, but she wanted nothing to do with it… Here is the one photo I was able to get.

Pregnancy Update

And I’m still pregnant…

Last night we did spend some time in the hospital, though, with some contractions and back pain.  The nurse checked me, and I was 1-2 cm dialated and 90% effaced.  My due date isn’t until November 13th, but I will be considered full term tomorrow (37 weeks).  Since I wasn’t full term at this point, then sent us home because the contractions had slowed down, and I hadn’t had any cervical changes in the hour I was there.  I am getting tired of being pregnant, but am happy to keep this baby cooking as long as it needs.

My mom has been collecting guesses on when people think the baby is going to make it’s appearance.  Hubs guessed Oct. 24, which everyone thought was super early.  It looks like he could be right, though!  I guessed November 3rd.  I would love to make it to November, but I don’t have too much control over the entire process.  The baby will come when it’s ready.

Work has been going well.  I have had to take more days off than I wanted.  For example, I took off today because by the time we got home from the hospital it was 4 am, and I hadn’t slept at all.  I was only planning on taking the morning off, but my coworkers encouraged me to take the whole day, since it was just a day of meetings.  I hope to be back in business tomorrow.  My back pain seems to have subsided today, which is a huge relief.  It was almost unmanageable.

Finances are going ok.  I took my car in for an oil change and air filter change.  It had also been making a funny rattling noise.  $400 later, and my car is back to normal.  We have spent some of the baby savings money to get our car seat/bases and other miscellaneous items we need for the baby.  We still have about $1,000 saved strictly for baby things/medical bills when those start to show up.  At this point, if baby comes tomorrow, we have what we need to get by.

I don’t have much else to update, but I will leave you some maternity photos.  Hubs and I had these taken by a family member.  They are fantastic, and we are so excited how lovely they turned out!

Anyone Still Reading?

I have been MIA for quite some time.  Things have been a bit overwhelming lately trying to get everything ready for our baby’s arrival.  I am currently at 36 weeks, so we are getting down to crunch time.  I am also trying to get all of my Master’s coursework for the semester completed in October, so I don’t have to worry about it once the baby is here.

Everything has been going ok as far as the pregnancy is concerned.  I am large and uncomfortable.  I did have to go to the doctor’s office yesterday to make sure things were going ok… If you don’t like to know about yucky pregnancy things, then I would recommend skipping this part.

Yesterday morning I woke up and felt two small gushes of liquid.  I didn’t think anything of it until I went to the bathroom.  I noticed that they were tinged brownish, which caused a bit of alarm.  I called my on-call midwife, and she said to just go about my day and if the liquid continued, then I would need to come in.  Well, the liquid had seemed to stop, so I just thought it was urine.  In the afternoon, though, I went to the bathroom and there was quite a bit of yucky brownish/reddish discharge.  I called the nurse again, and she said to go ahead and come on in.

I went in and they tested the liquid, but it was not amniotic fluid.  They believe it was just me starting to lose my mucous plug (which it did turn out to be).  They did find out that I had protein in my urine and slightly high blood pressure.  These are new symptoms, but I have been having very swollen feet lately also.  Because of all of these things, they are concerned about my risk of preeclampsia.  They went ahead and drew blood, and instructed me to complete a 24 hour urine collection.  I have been drinking A LOT of water since yesterday to help with the swelling, and it does seem to have had an affect on the size of my feet.  The midwife also recommended that I stay off my feet as much as possible and keep them elevated.  Luckily I have a student teacher who is in control of my classroom at this point, so I am able to do that without having to leave work this early.

So, that is where we are at with things.  Hubs has guessed my due date to be October 24, so if he is right, we have a week left.  My official due date is November 13th.  I am ready to meet this baby, but know that it needs to cook as long as possible.

Thanks to all of my loyal readers who are still checking in every once in a while.  I am not sure how regularly I will blog (especially once the baby gets here), but I am definitely going to continue.
