Snow, Snow, Snow

Tomorrow will be our fourth snow day in the past week.  We had snow days on Thursday and Friday of last week, and today was also a snow day.  I did have to go to work on Monday, so it hasn’t been a full week off.  I love snow days, but we are pretty much maxed out and will have to make anything else up at this point.  Going to school later into the summer is no good at all!  In the past 24 hours we have gotten over 6″ of snow (according to the weather channel website).  This is on top of the 8+” that we got last week.  Needless to say, there is a lot of snow everywhere.  It looks so pretty until it turns brown and gross from being driven on.

You would think that with all of these days off I would have gotten a lot accomplished, but you would be completely wrong.  I did get the living room vacuumed the other day, and I have been doing a pretty good job of keeping up with a clean kitchen.  But beyond that, I haven’t done too much.  Tomorrow that changes…

This is my to-do list for tomorrow:

Water indoor plants (They are looking pretty droopy these days)
Clean downstairs bathroom (I got the upstairs bathroom cleaned over the weekend)
Clean our bedroom (including washing sheets, dusting, vacuuming, the whole shebang)
Run errands (I figure the roads will be okay by after lunch time)
Go to another consignment sale
Drink 8 cups of water
At least 2 loads of laundry (washed, dried, folded, put away)

I think that is it.  The big question is whether I will get it all done or not.  I sure hope I do.  I have the rest of the week and Saturday all planned out to make sure that I get all my chores done.  Wish me luck!

What is the weather like around your area?

Budget Updates

Coin Dropping Into Piggy BankIt has been a while since I did a money/budget update.  I have spent the past hour or so getting things in order for March and figuring out what went wrong in February.  We did great until about mid-February.  Then I stopped tracking my expenses, and we bought some things we were not expecting (like a lid-locking trashcan).  In the end, we will make it out of February just fine… we just won’t be able to save as much as I had wanted.

I update the sidebars, and even though it looks like we are not quite as ahead with the maternity leave savings, I actually upped our goal.  I had started with a goal of just having the bare minimum to get us through two pay periods without my pay.  After doing taxes, I realize that the return we should get will be more than enough to up our goal to a full 2 pay periods without my pay.  In fact as soon as we get the tax return in our account, we will meet and exceed that goal!

We need to sit down and have a chat about what we want to save for next.  We are planning on looking at houses, so we will need to save for moving expenses (we already have a down payment ready).  I also would like to increase how much we are putting towards debt, and I think the next really major purchase (aside from the house) would be a new vehicle for me.  My 2002 car is still going strong, but we will need to replace it at some point in the future.

You can see that our car loan is almost under $10,000!  After our March payment, it will be!  I am so excited!  I would love for that to be gone before we buy another car, but that would be over a year for that to happen.  I definitely want to get rid of one of our debts before we take on another car loan.  I would love to be able to pay for a vehicle outright, but I don’t think that is going to happen quite yet.  We will keep saving away, though.

I am still anticipating some money from my short term disability and need to get that filed ASAP.  And even though we are saving for two whole pay periods with no pay, I do think in reality I will receive some pay in July and none in August.  I also have some photography sessions that will bring in some extra income, so I think we will be ok!

One budget buster is definitely gas prices.  They are almost to $4/gallon in our neck of the woods.  I have upped our budget for next month by $10 a week for gas.  That means almost $50 a month more will be going towards gas.  No good!

Another budget buster is our daughter’s food.  My milk supply has dwindled greatly, so we are supplementing with formula.  She currently gets bottles with half breast milk/ half formula.  The formula is expensive, and so far it seems as though we go through one container in about a week and a half to two weeks.  That means we will be spending almost $50-$60 on formula a month.  Luckily I have some $5.00 rebate checks from the brand we buy, so that helps a ton!

On a good budget note, I went to a huge consignment sale yesterday and came away with some great buys for Miss C.  I got all of this for under $35 (and I paid in cash from Miss C’s envelope).

_MG_2365That is 5 sleepers, 3 long sleeved onsies, 4 DVDs, and 1 perfect hard-back copy of Go, Dog, Go!.   Not too bad!

How is your budget turning out for February, and how is it looking for March?  If we maintain our self-discipline and keep going strong, then we should be good!

Bad Mood

*I need to complain for a moment, so if you don’t want to hear it, then feel free to skip this post.

I am just grumpy today.  I was super busy yesterday evening and didn’t get much down time.  Then Miss C woke up at 2:15 and gobbled down 7 oz.  She fell right back to sleep, but it took me a while.  I tossed and turned after that.

The weather is supposed to get nasty on Wednesday night, and I have no idea how kids seem to innately know when the weather is going to change, but they do.  They forget all rules and manners.  This is especially true today.

I got a lot done this past weekend and yesterday evening, but if I were to write down my full to-do list, I think it would be longer than my arm.

It is looking like a good chance for a snow day on Thursday, and I sure could use one!

*Ok… rant over.  Now time to think positively and have a better outlook on the day.  I can do it!

Monday, Monday Miscellaneous

Well, I got more done this weekend than I was expecting!  You can check my post from Saturday to see how my to-do list turned out.  I have a super short to-do list for today after school.  I end up doing more (like making dinner, cleaning up after dinner, hand-washing bottles, etc.), but these are the things that I don’t typically do after work.

1.) Type sub plans for Wednesday
2.) Get stuff ready for silent auction
3.) Vacuum upstairs
4.) Print out tax documents for student loans

Our weather looks a little unstable later this week, so I am hoping for a snow day on Thursday or Friday!  It would be fantastic to have a day off to actually spend with my husband and daughter at the same time.  (Hubs works Sat-Tues, so we don’t even get weekends to spend together).  I know I shouldn’t get my hopes up, but I would love the extra day off.

Miss C has her 4 month appointment on Wednesday.  When did my sweet little newborn become 4 months old?  (Technically she will be 4 months old on Saturday.)  Hubs has to pack her up and take her all on his own.  I am sad that I will miss the appointment, but I just can’t afford to take a day off at this point.  I am in the hole 36 days this year… That’s over a month!  Hopefully I will get some days from the sick leave pool, which will definitely help, but this is why we are savings so much for my maternity leave savings.  I also still need to apply for my short-term disability pay and do taxes… those two things should help!

I am participating in Carla’s 3rd Secret Sister Swap.  I had to sit out the last one since we had just had Miss C, and I didn’t know if I would be able to complete it fully.  I participated in the first one and had a blast shopping for the lovely Mysti.  I just found out who my secret sister is, and I honestly can’t wait to start shopping!  Yay!

I hope you have a great Monday!  Hopefully I will get my to-do list completed, and hopefully you do the same. 🙂

Weekend Plans

I am starting to wonder if I will ever know what it feels like to be caught up with everything….

I wrote that first sentence on Friday while I was at school.  It is now 5:51 on Saturday evening and I am just getting around to finish this blog post.

My to do list is never ending, even though I do try and get something done each night, it just doesn’t seem to make a difference.  Today has been the same.  I have been chiseling away at my to-do list but it hasn’t seemed to make the list any shorter.  I have been feeling so very overwhelmed at what all needs to be done.  I was supposed to meet up with some friends for appetizers this evening, but I just felt like I had so much else to do.  Don’t get me wrong, I had been working since I woke up at 5:30, but barely got anything crossed off my to-do list.

Here is a peek at my list and what I want to get done this weekend:

Edit 10 photos
Clean kitchen
Take down recycling
Clean table (catch-all for mail and coupons)

Edit 10 photos
Clean both bathrooms (Got one done!)
Vacuum upstairs
Lesson Plan
Deliver client’s DVD

Get photography stuff ready for a silent auction
Grocery Shop
Vacuum downstairs
Budget and get tax stuff printed out

You can see that I have gotten a few things done, but I also had some other random things pop up that I had to tend to.  I had to create a photo print pricing page for my clients.  (My client today requested prices on prints from the lab I use).  I also had to play with my cute daughter!  Of course, that took precedence over everything else.

Now that dinner is over, I can concentrate on getting the kitchen and kitchen table completely clean.  I doubt I will get everything done that I want, but it’s a start.

In honor of the KU game tonight, here is our little cheerleader:

How is your weekend to-do list going?  Getting more done than I am (that wouldn’t be hard to do)?

The Adventures of Rose and Ding-Dong Cone Head

This is what I came home to…

_MG_2325For those of you who are my facebook friends, you may remember the mess from the trash can that was left all over my living room.  Because of that incident, we bought a locking trash can.  You can see that trash can in the lower left-hand corner of the picture.  It is still locked.  This is not normally where our trashcan is housed.  It is actually usually found behind that skinny wall on the right hand side of the picture.  We also do not typically keep shelves lying down on the floor with their contents strewn about the living room.  That is normally standing up next to the tv.

The guilty party is hiding in his cone in the center of the picture.  I know it is him because whenever I even touched the trash can to move it or pick anything up, Rose jumped back, scared to death.  (She has a crazy, irrational fear of trash bags anyways.

Here is the interesting part… The trash can was locked, so yes, the trash was still in the trash can.  But what was missing from the trash can?  The entire trash bag!  It was shredded into pieces around the living room.  Somehow Bandit had to have gotten a hold of a tiny bit of trash bag and just kept pulling and pulling.  The entire trash bag came out and left the trash in the trashcan.  If I weren’t so darn angry at the dog, I would have thought it was an amazing feat.

Sunday Night Chit-Chat

Thanks to Carla for hosting!

ProfileI just can’t get enough of this girl!  I love this profile shot of her.  You can see that she had her tongue sticking out just a bit.  She has started licking everything that is put near her mouth.  My shoulder was covered in drool and slobber earlier today when I just carried her to her room for nap.  Silly girl!

Now on to the chit-chat:

What are you…

Reading?  Absolutely nothing!  I am taking some time off from getting my masters and honestly I don’t feel like I could find time to read even if I wanted to.  My google reader is over 200, and I barely make a dent in it each day.  Reading is at the bottom of my priority list and probably will stay there until this summer.

Watching?  The Grammys.  I enjoy the Grammys and like to see what everyone is wearing.  I just wish it didn’t last so long.  I am ready for bed and have a feeling I will be woken up in the middle of the night tonight.

Listening to?  The TV, and I can hear Miss C’s noise machine in the background.

Baking/Cooking?  Today I did no such thing.  I am planning to make lasagna for dinner tomorrow night, and I’m pretty excited about it.

Happy you accomplished this week?  I had a very successful photography session on Saturday and have loved how the photos have come out so far!

Looking forward to next week?  Valentine’s Day!  I love love.  Hubs and I don’t really do anything for it, but I love Valentine’s Day in my classroom.  The kids get so excited about giving each other valentines and reading them.  It is so cute!

Thankful for today?  I had a great dinner with my former student teacher!  She is a great friend, and I loved the chance to catch up with her and share C with her.  So fun!

Bonus Question: Are you musically gifted/talented?  Do you play any instruments? Sing?  Ha!  Not at all!  I played sax my senior year, but that was mainly so I could hang out with my best friend.  I sure wish I sang, and I am pretty sure Hubs wishes I sang better than I do.  Hubs sang in choir in high school, so C does have a chance of having some musical ability.

Thanks for stopping by!

No Time

I seem to be saying that I don’t have enough time to get everything done in every area of my life.  My home life needs organized and cleaned.  My work life needs the same.  My photography business just needs to get figured out (organization-wise and needs to become legit.)  Add on top of that a 3 month old who relies heavily on me, and I have run out of hours.  It also doesn’t help that I lost an entire weekend because of being out of town for a funeral, and I really am in over my head.  (I am not complaining about having to go to the funeral.  It was very nice to see all of Hubs’ family, but the time away really messed me up in getting anything done.)

Something’s gotta give…

Hopefully I will be back in a couple days or this weekend to get some goals set up, update my sidebars, and just get life figured out in general.
